| Gerhard was born in Upper-Austria in 1963 As a boy he wanted to become an artist and after school began his career as a photographer. He completed a master's degree in photography at age 21. Horst Stasny, one of Europe's great contemporary photographers, took Gerhard on as an apprentice in his studio from 1984-87. He then moved to New York's East Village and later Williamsburg, Brooklyn and worked between Europe and the Americas. He shot for Vogue, Madame, Surface and numerous brands. He moved "home" to Europe and is busy with new and many "appreciated" long time clients shooting in Asia, the Americas and Europe.
